Hyperpigmentation is a condition that manifests itself in the form of dark spots on the skin, most often on the face, hands and other parts of the body that are frequently exposed to the sun. This condition occurs when the skin produces excessive amounts of melanin, the pigment responsible for the color of the skin, hair and eyes. Hyperpigmentation can be caused by a variety of factors, including long-term exposure to UV radiation, hormonal changes (such as those during pregnancy or taking contraceptives), aging, skin damage or even injuries that leave permanent marks in the form of dark spots. People with fair skin or those who have an increased tendency to develop hyperpigmentation may also be more susceptible to this condition.

One of the most well-known types of hyperpigmentation is age spots or sun spots, which usually appear on the face, décolleté, hands and back. In addition, melasma, which is specific to women and often occurs due to hormonal changes, can cause dark spots on the cheeks, forehead and lips. Hyperpigmentation treatment involves several different methods, the most commonly used of which include chemical peels, laser treatments and intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments.

Chemical peels use chemical solutions to remove the surface layers of the skin, helping to reduce the visibility of blemishes and stimulate the production of new, healthy skin cells. Laser treatments use specific wavelengths that target melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin, reducing pigmentation without damaging surrounding tissue. IPL treatments also use light energy to break down melanin and improve skin tone. These treatments are painless, safe to perform under professional supervision and produce visible results after just a few sessions.

For best results, a combination of treatments is often recommended, along with appropriate home skin care. Dermocosmetic products containing active ingredients such as vitamin C, niacinamide and hydroquinone can help reduce pigmentation and prevent the formation of new blemishes. It is also very important to use sunscreens with a protection factor (SPF 50) daily, as UV rays can worsen existing blemishes and cause new ones to form. Regular application of sunscreen is a key factor in maintaining skin health and achieving long-term results.

This treatment is ideal for people who want to even out their skin tone and get rid of unwanted pigmentation spots, improving its appearance and texture. Although the procedure is very effective, it is important to consult with a specialist who will recommend the best treatment according to the specific needs of your skin.
