Ergometry, also known as stress testing, is used to assess the functional capacity of the heart during physical exertion.

Duration

- Recommended number

Recommended as part of the assessment of cardiac function, in athletes or people with risk factors for heart disease

Who it is for -

People with chest pain, reduced physical fitness, athletes, or those with heart disease

Contraindications

Acute heart disease, high blood pressure, severe arrhythmias or other serious illnesses

Exercise testing, also known as exercise stress testing, helps detect hidden heart problems that may only occur under stress. During the test, the patient is placed on a bicycle ergometer or treadmill and the intensity of the physical effort is gradually increased. At the same time, doctors monitor the patient's ECG, blood pressure, and pulse to monitor the heart's response to the effort.

This test is particularly useful in patients who have symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or fatigue during exercise, and can help detect conditions such as angina, myocardial ischemia, or arrhythmias. It is also useful for monitoring patients who have had a heart attack or other heart surgery, as it helps assess their ability to exercise.

Exercise stress testing also helps determine the optimal rehabilitation plan for people who have suffered heart disease. Based on the test results, doctors can adjust the level of physical exertion to improve heart health and reduce the risk of future complications.

The test is safe and is performed under constant medical supervision. Although exercise testing is beneficial for many patients, it is not recommended for patients with certain heart conditions, such as acute myocardial infarction, serious arrhythmias, or severe hypertension.
