An urologist is a medical doctor specialized in health problems of male and female urinary systems and male sex organs. Though, in practice, gynecologists, nephrologists or general practitioners deal with health problems of female urinary tract.
Urology is a branch of medicine classified as a surgical subspecialty which deals with:
- disorders of urinary tract excretion system such as urine flow problems, congenital anomalies, stones, benignant and malignant kidney tumors, kidney transplantation
- urinary bladder problems
- problems with urethra and prostate
- penis problems, such as impotency, tumors and other diseases
- disorders of testes and surrounding structures
- vasectomy
- male infertility
- sexual dysfunctions – searching for organic background for impotency, premature ejaculation etc.
